Just in time for the holidays, a taste of New York City is coming to the Eureka Springs High School Auditorium Dec. 9-10.
The Eureka Springs High School Drama/Choir, also known as “ES Tableaux,” will be presenting the Broadway Junior version of an alltime favorite, Annie, featuring 30 drama/choir students, under the joint direction of Rick and Donesa Mann.
The cast will sing, dance, and act their way into your heart as Annie, Jr. comes alive on stage.
Holiday music pre-shows will be presented both days by Donesa Mann’s Eureka Springs Middle School’s onstage choirs, grades 5-8. The admission cost of $10 per adult and $5 per student. One ticket purchase may be used either or both nights and Eureka Springs Schools staff and students are admitted free.
“CS Bank is proud to underwrite this huge undertaking by the Eureka Springs High School drama/choral students,” said Jason Tenant, president of CS Bank. “It was a win-win opportunity to support musical theater in our local school and bring quality holiday entertainment to our county. We hope that the community will come out to the production to support the students and share an evening of fun with family and friends.”
According to Donesa Mann, the drama department produced this production seven years ago and had an enormous community response. This holiday season’s encore will feature new cast, new choreography and a very different set incorporating recent lighting and backdrop upgrades.
Annie, Jr. is a 1 1⁄2 hour abbreviated Music Theatre International musical based on the comic strip, “Little Orphan Annie.” The Junior version follows closely to the original Broadway stage musical, Annie, which depicts the life of a New York City orphan who is invited to share the holidays with the millionaire, Oliver Warbucks.
Annie’s irresistible demeanor wins the hearts of the entire Warbucks household and causes Warbucks to want to adopt her. The plot thickens when Warbucks’ hope is melted by Annie’s dream to be reunited with her real parents. He goes on nationwide radio and offers a hefty reward (in the midst of the Great Depression) to help fulfill Annie’s dream. Three fortune-seeking villains devise a plot to fool Warbucks and claim the reward with ill-intent for little Annie.
Annie will be played by Baylee Harris and Madison Partee. Conner Hensen will play Warbucks. Grace Farrell (Warbucks’ secretary) will be played by Hannah Kelly and Emma Hutchens. Miss Hannigan (Joa Murray, Amber Kirk), Rooster Hannigan (Cesar Rincon-Estrada), and Lilly St. Regis (Peyton Gordon, Joa Murray) will try to weasel Warbucks out of $50,000.
Sam Jackson will play Sandy, Annie’s new-found canine friend. Theater/choir students will round-out the orphan and NYC cast and production team.
Tickets may be purchased on the Eureka Springs Schools’ online store and will also be sold at the door.
