Friends of the Berryville Library members and bank leaders recently gathered at Equity Bank in Berryville as Equity market president Craig Kesner announced the bank’s intention to pledge $25,000 toward the construction of a new Berryville library.
The library kicked off a $2.5 million capital campaign 14 months ago, and this announcement puts the library at the halfway mark of reaching its fundraising goal.
Kesner presented a ceremonial check to the Friends of the Library.
“As a community bank, we’re pleased to continue to support the resources that are crucial to Berryville and our surrounding communities,” Kesner said. “We’re pleased to work with our customers, team members and Friends of the Berryville Library to continue to do what’s right for our communities.”
Library advisory board president Joe Scott said: “We have been so humbled by the ongoing show of support our local banks have made and this latest donation puts us over halfway there!”
The Friends of the Berryville Library recently held a membership campaign and now have more than 160 members while efforts continue to get additional individuals and businesses to join.
The location of the proposed library will be across from the city pool offering ample green space around the library to allow for children and adult programming to be held both indoors and outdoors. Naming opportunities are still available for those wanting to donate.
Scott encouraged everyone who has an interest in the library to show their support and join the Friends. Individuals can join for as little as $10 a year, and a family can join for only $25 per year. Businesses are also encouraged to join. The Friends of the Berryville Library is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit designation, and all donations to the Building Fund are tax-deductible. The Berryville Library is one of six libraries that compose the Carroll and Madison Library System, also known as CAMALS.
Berryville Library director Julie Hall thanked Equity for its financial commitment to the future of the library and for supporting the library when needs arise throughout the year.
“So many people along with businesses small and large in our community rely on the resources of our library,” Hall said. “We are helping bridge multicultural and multigenerational gaps by providing assistance with technology, educational programs, and free resources.”
