The Green Forest Tigers faced a daunting situation heading into their Homecoming game against Elkins on Friday, Oct. 14.
The Tigers were riding a three-game losing streak, facing a talented opponent with just one loss all season and were without their starting quarterback and three starting offensive linemen.
It all proved too much to overcome as Elkins took control early and rolled to a 56-0 victory at Tiger Stadium.
Elkins took advantage of several turnovers by Green Forest, jumping out to leads of 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 49-0 by halftime.
“We’ve got a lot of injuries,” Green Forest coach Greg Tibbitt said. “Those aren’t excuses really. Those are facts right now, unfortunately. And then you play maybe one of the best teams in (Class) 4A right now.”
Tibbitt said senior quarterback Isaiah Fraga is in concussion protocol but could be cleared to return for this week’s game at Gravette.
“It’s going to be a fine line,” Tibbitt said. “It’s the doctor’s decision at the end of the day, not ours.”
Gravette is coming off a 35-13 win last week at Berryville.
“They’ve got a good football team,” Tibbitt said.
