The Berryville Library Building Fund has received $10,000 to preserve in pictures the tremendous effect placing more books in homes can have on the children of Carroll County. Images of Dolly Parton along with young Carroll County citizens reading books received from her Imagination Library program will be featured on the end of a shelving unit in the new library. With the shelving units standing eight feet high, this will be an almost life-sized tribute to the efforts of the Carroll County Youth Literacy Rotary Foundation that community members will view every time they are in the library for years to come.
The donor wishes to remain anonymous so that the attention can remain on the importance of supporting all the literacy efforts going on right here in Carroll County.
The Carroll County Youth Literacy Rotary Foundation is an affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library serving Carroll County. The program registers children from birth to age 5 to receive a free, monthly age-appropriate book selected by a national committee of child development specialists.
Children registered at birth will receive 60 books before they are old enough to start school.
Registration forms are available in English, Spanish, Marshallese, Karen, and Hmong. Online registration for Imagination Library books in Carroll County is available at imaginationlibrary. com. Paper registration forms may be picked up at the Berryville Library.
“It is my pleasure to support the library building fund in this way!” the donor said. “Reading is so important regardless of your age. Imagination Library is a feeder system into our new library. Encouraging pre-k literacy through books at home motivates the little ones to start reading. The very next step is wanting more books and going to the library. Our new library will be waiting for them! It is my hope that others will also choose to honor unique aspects of our local history by donating to this wonderful community project of building a new library, which will serve this community for many generations to come.”
