Carroll County District 1 Justice of the Peace David Blankenship of Eureka Springs, who had been appointed to serve on the county quorum court in June, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 25. He was 65.

Blankenship was appointed by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on June 20 to fill the District 1 seat left vacant by the retirement of longtime JP Jack Deaton. His first meeting was July 15.

The quorum court is expected to adopt a resolution at its next regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 21, declaring a vacancy in the District 1 seat.

Funeral arrangements for Blankenship had not been announced as of Monday, Sept. 29.
