The Berryville and Green Forest cross country teams opened the 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, competing in the Shiloh Saints Invitational in Springdale.
Berryville’s Bella Knapp was the highest placing runner from Carroll County, covering the 5K course in 22 minutes, 56.95 seconds to place seventh among Class 1A-4A high school girls.
Knapp was followed by teammates Astralia Amos (10th), Maranatha Ross (23rd), Carly Smith (28th) and Sophie Bartos (47th). The Lady Bobcats finished fourth in the team standings.
Malachi Houghton led Berryville’s boys, finishing 13th among Class 1A-4A runners. He was followed by Noah Houghton (27th), Asher Ross (30th), Lane Carman (56th), Aden Burnett (60th), Gabriel Wall (61st) and Gavin Simkins (62nd). Berryville finished seventh in the boys team standings.
Green Forest’s Sergio Martinez finished 37th in the high school boys 1A-4A race, followed by teammates Alex Alvarez (37th), Erbin Mendoza (42nd), Alex Lemus (47th), Chris Alvarado (49th) and Isaac Flores (73rd). The Tigers were ninth in the boys team standings.
For the Green Forest High School girls, Kayla Lozano finished 17th. Stephanie Lopez was 30th, Lisbet Rosales finished 32nd, Haddasah Reyes was 55th and Eregly Gaspar was 57th. The Lady Tigers were seventh in the girls team standings.
Berryville’s Kai Killingsworth ran a 12:42 over 3,200 meters to take third place in the junior high girls small school division. Mikayla Killingsworth was 16th, Marcella Gray was 27th, Yasmine Trujillo was 39th, Yesica Hernandez was 4rd and Noelia Zuniga finished 58th as Berryville took fourth place in the team standings.
Berryville’s Karson Casey was 96th among Class 1A-4A junior high boys.
Green Forest’s junior high boys placed two runners among the top 15 with Jahdiel Manuel taking eighth place and Cristian Rosales in 15th. Other Green Forest runners were Antony Serrano (23rd), Alex Lopez (39th), Franklin Lopez (42nd), Alex Serrano (50th), Andy Herrera (60th), Ethan Stone (72nd), Christian Garcia (64th), Daniel Leon (113th) and Bryan Carreon (115th). Green Forest finished fourth in the team standings.
Jade Campbell led Green Forest’s junior high girls, finishing 24th. Lorena Ortega was 47th, Adrianna Reyes 52nd, Juliet Rangel 68th and Alice Garcia 71st. The Lady Tigers were seventh in the team standings.
