Both the Green Forest and Berryville high school cross country teams opened the 2022 season Saturday, Sept. 3, competing in the Shiloh Saints Invitational in Springdale.
Green Forest sophomore Arauny Reyes finished fourth among Class 1A-4A boys, covering the 5,000-meter course in 18 minutes, 12.63 seconds.
Reyes was followed by teammates Alonzo Rangel (13th, 19:33.60); Joseph Duenas (21st, 20:08.80); Sergio Martinez (25th, 20:37.74); Chris Alvarado (39th, 22:02.47); and Alex Alvarez (40th, 22:06.43) as the Tigers took third in the boys team standings.
Three Green Forest runners competed in the girls division. Stephanie Lopez finished 37th in 28:36.76. She was followed by Haddasah Reyes (43rd, 31:40.60) and Esther Valero (51st, 47:46.21).
Berryville’s Malachi Haughton finished 16th among Class 1A-4A boys with a time of 19:45.25. Other Berryville runners in the boys division were Cole Price (26th, 20:42.51); Asher Ross (33rd, 21:25.03); Aden Burnett (43rd, 22:22.41); Robby Bartos (44th, 22:22.72); Nathan Ross (59th, 24:10.20); Gabriel Wall (61st, 24:38.82); and Gavin Simpkins (64th, 25:04.23).
On the girls side, Berryville was led by Carly Smith (18th, 25:11.80), followed by Astralia Amos (21st, 25:35.11); Bella Knapp (25th, 25:52.57); Tessa Parton (26th, 26:00.55); and Sophee Bartos (50th, 46:43.74).
Berryville finished sixth in the boys team standings and sixth on the girls side.
