The Carroll County Country Chicks Extension Homemakers Club presented their first “Perseverance Pays” scholarship to Mirely Rodriquez-Aquilar on May 8, at the Berryville High School Senior Awards Night.
This is the first scholarship that the club has given and it is awarded to a student who has been nominated by a teacher or school counselor for their incredible work ethic in and out of the classroom in spite of the fact that they struggle with testing. These students, regardless of ACT or other test scores, have proved that they have what it takes to succeed in college.
The $500 scholarship is funded with the profits from the Country Chicks’ annual Christmas Gifts Galore. They are hoping to either give a larger scholarship next year or to give one to a student at all three Carroll County high schools. Christmas Gifts Galore will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Carroll County Fairgrounds and donating to the scholarship fund is one of three ways to pay for entry. The other two are non-perishable food donations or cash donations for A Cup of Love.
