Chuck Hawthorne, Nabholz Construction site manager for the Berryville Library Building Project, gave those on hand for the library’s 4th Monday meetup on Sept. 22 an update on the new library building project, which is located across the street from the Berryville City Park.
Hawthorne encouraged those in attendance to drive by the new site and see the extensive dirt work that Barrows Excavation has completed. The slab is scheduled to be poured next week and will require a seven-day curing period. After that, the team will focus on storm drains, roads and gravel.
“Once the slab is poured, you will be able to really visualize the footprint of the new library,” Hawthorne said.
He added: “I’ve been part of many projects throughout my career, including Crystal Bridges in Bentonville, but I am very blessed to be part of this project that the entire community has been a part of in making it happen. It is truly great to be part of a rural community that is so excited to see this library become a reality.”
Once the concrete slab is poured and cured, the steel will go up, and the building will be framed. Progress will become very visible at this point.
Hawthorne commented on what a pleasure it has been to work with Building Committee members Joe Scott and James Sanders, who have been instrumental to the process.
When asked about the building’s completion date, Hawthorne stated that it depends on the weather, but is expected to be around May of next year.
Scott reminded the group that while the Friends of the Berryville Library have raised enough money to build the library as promised, they are still raising funds for furnishings inside the library.
If you would like to be part of the new library story and donate to the building fund for furnishings, tax-deductible donations can be made to the Berryville Library Building Fund and dropped off or mailed to the Berryville Library at 104 Spring Street, Berryville, AR 72616.
