Community Band, BHS Band to present joint concert Dec. 3

Posted

The Carroll County Community Band and the Berryville High School Band will present a joint concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 in the high school Performing Arts Center. The Carroll County Community Band, led by maestro Jim Swiggart, involves adults from Carroll, Madison, Boone and Benton counties as well as students and band directors from Alpena, Green Forest, Berryville and Eureka Springs. This is the first time the two groups have presented a concert on the same evening.

“This year we had a tough time with availability of facilities that would work with available dates, so we came up with this solution,” said Doug Blevins, BHS band director.

The Community Band’s program will consist of traditional band literature, while the high school band will play traditional holiday selections. One of the goals of the Community Band is to provide scholarships to summer music camps for students in Carroll County. There will be a donation box available for patrons to donate financially toward scholarships for band students. This concert is free and open to anyone who enjoys band music.

The evening will begin with the Community Band and last approximately one hour.
