In May, the Carroll County Master Gardeners announced their newest sanctioned project in partnership with the Loaves and Fishes Food Bank, called Come Grow with Carroll County where raised garden beds were built to help supply some of the vegetable needs for the food bank.
Recently, the first four peppers were harvested and presented to Susan Brandt and Beverly Tiegland at Loaves and Fishes Food Bank.
In addition to peppers, the garden contains tomatoes, squash, and sweet potatoes.
The project’s intent is not only to provide fresh vegetables to the food bank but also to offer information and education on how to grow and maintain raised garden beds, aimed at educating the community on growing their own vegetables.
“We are thrilled to share our first harvest with the food bank,” said Carroll County Master Gardener project chair Cynthia Osborne. “We hope this will be the first of many harvests we will share with the food bank over the next several months.”
The Come Grow with Carroll County project marks the fourth Master Gardener- sanctioned project in the County. Other projects include courtyards at the Berryville and Green Forest libraries and maintaining a bed at Little Lake Eureka in Eureka Springs.
