13 from county earn All-State honors
Several Carroll County High School athletes have been named to All-State teams in their respective sports.
Green Forest sophomore Lydia Russell, who won four events at the Class 3A state championships on May 2 at Prescott, has been named to the girls all-state track and field team. Alonzo Rangel, a Green Forest senior, was named to the boys team after taking second place in the 3,200-meter run and fifth in the 1,600 at the state meet.
A total of 11 Carroll County athletes earned all-state honors in soccer, led by four players from the Green Forest team that won the Class 3A boys state championship.
Seniors Izaak Merida, Elvin Montoya and Jesus “Chuy” Romero and freshman Jonathan Rivera were all chosen as all-state players.
Green Forest’s girls soccer team had two all-state selections: senior Emily Lozano and her younger sister, sophomore Kayla Lozano. The Lady Tigers advanced to the state tournament semifinals for the second consecutive year after playing in the state championship game in 2021.
Three players from the Berryville team that reached the semifinals of the Class 4A state tournament also earned all-state honors: seniors Jesus Monroy, Juan Perez and David Tapia.
The Eureka Springs Highlanders, who reached the Class 3A state tournament, had two players on the boys all-state soccer team: senior Leo Alpizar Garcia and his younger brother, junior Jose Alpizar Garcia.
