WestlakeDella Carole Smith Westlake, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas was born in Berryville July 28, 1944, a daughter of Enis Carson Smith and Mildred Hale Smith departed this life on March 12, 2024, at the age of 79 On November 14, 1964, Carole was united in marriage to James W. (Jim) Westlake. They resided in Berryville most of their married life. They have one daughter, Julie Anne Sooter and one grandson, Brett Austin Sooter.
Carole always felt the best part of her life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. However, she was an office worker too having worked as a legal secretary for many years, also worked for the state and a deputy assessor for Carroll County, Carroll County newspapers and Saunders Museum.
Carole was a Christian having accepted the Lord and was baptized at Kings River Stoney Point as a teen. She attended Westside Chrisitan Church where she taught children’s classes for many years. She has been attending Southern Heights Baptist in Berryville for several years, where she became an active member of the senior group going to Branson shows and other short trips with fellow Christian Friends.
She also enjoyed Julie and Ronnie taking her to see Brett coaching his football team. She had been going to his ballgames since he was young. A very proud mother and grandma!
Carole is survived by her daughter, Julie Anne Sooter and husband Ronnie of Berryville; grandson, Brett Austin Sooter of Springdale; sisters, Barbara Large of Branson, along with Betty Mechem and husband Kent of Kamloops, BC and brother-in-law, Charles Westlake of Cabot along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by husband, Jim Westlake; parents, Carson and Mildred Smith; young sister, Jerry Ann Smith; brothers-in-law, Bill Large, Richard Westlake; sisters- in-law, Mary Ellen Baker, Betsey Ann Hoffman; fatherin- law, Noble Charles and mother-in-law, Mary Westlake.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2024, at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Jerry Spurlock and Pastor Keith Moore.
