The biggest item of business for the Berryville City Council’s first meeting of 2023 was a routine report by police chief Robert Bartos.
At the council’s Jan. 3 meeting, Bartos presented statistics from the month of December as well as yearly numbers from 2022.
For the month of December, Bartos said his department issued 76 citations, down from 92 in December 2021. Bartos reported 73 offenses for the month, up by two from the previous year. There were 14 accidents for the month, one fewer than in 2021, and the police department’s clearance rate was 85 percent. The department took in $615 in fines for December.
For the year, Bartos said the department issued 1,226 citations, an increase from 1,201 in 2021.There were 769 offenses for the year, up from 764 the previous year. There were 178 accidents reported, an increase from 161 in 2021. The police department’s clearance rate for the year was 81 percent.
Before the meeting convened, Carroll County District Judge Dale Ramsey swore in Mayor Tim McKinney and members of the city council.
McKinney, the state’s longest-serving active mayor, is beginning his ninth term in office.
