BV council breezes through short agenda

Posted

The Berryville City Council needed less than 10 minutes to move through its agenda at a regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

Mayor Tim McKinney read a proclamation declaring Feb. 13-19 as Ronald McDonald Week in Berryville.

“They serve a lot of families from this area,” McKinney said of the two Ronald McDonald Houses in Springfield. “We just urge all of our citizens to support this cause locally. You can give at the local McDonald’s here. It’s a great cause and we would encourage our citizens to support that.”

Council member Jason Williams said he participated virtually in the Arkansas Municipal League’s recent Winter Conference.

“I was really glad I did that, because that was a great convenient way to still participate and get that information,” Williams said. “So it’s something to look into. It makes it a lot more convenient for me as a business owner to watch it.”

“I think they’re going to continue doing that,” said McKinney, who served as president of the municipal league in 2021-2022. “It costs a little bit extra. But they made the same point as you did that a lot of council members and even mayors in Arkansas, that’s not how they make a living.”

In his mayor’s comments, McKinney said the city has hired two new employees for the public works department.

“We’re going to have more of a construction crew and a maintenance crew,” McKinney said.

The city council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at City Hall.
