BV Community Center marks 20th anniversary

Posted

The Berryville Community Center is turning 20 years old this week.

To celebrate, community center staff have been busy planning a Safety and Wellness Expo to mark the occasion, promising to provide “a day of fun for everyone.”

“We’re throwing the BCC its own birthday celebration by inviting a host of health and safety experts to visit and provide you and your friends and family with a day of fun, information, giveaways, and more,” BCC staff said in a news release about the event.

The celebration kicks off at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 21, and will run through 4 p.m. Among the many activities and exhibits will be a free car seat giveaway with professional installation, a Red Cross blood drive, a planned visit from an AirEvac helicopter, a variety of games and activities for kids, free admission to the center all day with expanded swim times for families and a birthday party — complete with a free lunch for the first 200 people, cake, balloons and a bounce house — for the Community Center. In addition, the Safety and Wellness Expo will fill the center’s banquet hall with booths, freebies and giveaways.

According to assistant director Kim Smith, the celebration will also feature a demonstration of the Jaws of Life from local firefighters in addition to a smoke house demonstration and possibly a rescue boat. Bicycle and wilderness safety lessons will also be offered.

Among the guests will be representatives from University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Health system, Berryville Public Library, Ozark Mountain Veterans, Community Emergency Response Team, Good Shepherd Humane Society, Carroll County SORT Team, Eureka Springs Hospital, Mennonite Disaster Service Search and Rescue, Tyson and Harter House.
