Bobcats’ Houghton shines at Prairie Grove meet

Berryville freshman Malachi Houghton ran a season-best time of 17 minutes, 40.52 seconds over 5,000 meters to place second in the Class 1A-4A boys individual standings at the Prairie Grove Tigers Invitational on Monday, Oct. 10.

Berryville finished second among Class 1A-4A schools in the boys team standings.

Houghton was followed by teammates Asher Ross (13th, 19:44.93); Cole Price (15th, 19:47.66); Robby Bartos (19th, 20:40.85); Aden Burnett (26th, 21:16.88); Nathan Ross (29th, 21:39.20); and Gabriel Wall (40th, 22:43.46).

In the girls race, Berryville sophomore Bella Knapp took ninth place among Class 1A-4A runners with a time of 24:10.43. She was followed by teammates Astralia Amos (10th, 24:28.34); Tessa Parton (24:59.93); Carly Smith (14th, 25:04.94); Maranatha Ross (18th, 25:54.68); and Sophee Bartos (31st, 37:21.68). The Lady Bobcats took second place among Class 1A-4A girls teams.

Berryville will compete in the Lions Thrive Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Bentonville.

••• Green Forest sophomore Arauny Reyes ran 5,000 meters in 17 minutes, 17.80 seconds to take eighth place in the boys individual standings at the Bomber Invitational cross country meet on Saturday, Oct. 15, in Mountain Home.

Reyes’ performance, a season- best time, led Green Forest to a fourth-place finish in the boys team standings.

Other Green Forest runners in the boys race were Alonzo Rangel (19th, 18:51.60); Joseph Duenas (26th, 19:15.70); Alex Alvarez (42nd, 20:13.10); Elvin Montoya (44th, 20:34.30); and Chris Alvarado (55th, 21:28.00).

Emily Sales was the only Green Forest runner in the girls race, finishing 24th with a time of 25:28.40.

Green Forest will compete in the 3A-1 district championships on Monday, Oct. 24, at Bergman.
