Berryville coach Adam Brannon, in his first season leading the Bobcats’ soccer team, says it’s been a “weird season” so far for his team.
The Bobcats lost their first three games of the season — two of them to Class 6A teams from Rogers and Bentonville before a 4-1 loss at Class 4A Dardanelle on Tuesday, March 26. Berryville also has had two games canceled and abnother postponed because of weather.
Given all that, it’s no surprise that Brannon is feeling pretty good after the Bobcats beat visiting Gentry 6-1 on Thursday, March 28, for their first victory of the season.
Omar Perez got Berryville off to a good start, scoring the first two goals of the game to put the Bobcats up 2-0 by the 20-minute mark of the first half. Nestor Perez also scored twice for Berryville, with Isaac Leon and Val Trujillo adding single goals for the Bobcats.
“We’re finally seeing 4A competition and I think we’re playing good ball,” Brannon said. “Still a very young team but the talent is there. We’re finally moving the ball better, playing better defensively and the kids are understanding their roles. It was a needed win for sure. We’re moving in the right direction.”
Berryville’s girls lost to Dardanelle 6-2 but tied Gentry 1-1.
Both Berryville teams are scheduled to play at Prairie Grove on Tuesday, April 2. On Thursday, April 4, the Lady Bobcats will host Shiloh Christian while the boys will be at home against Huntsville.
Berryville’s games against Green Forest, originally scheduled for March 14 at Berryville but postponed because of weather, will now be played Monday, April 15, at Green Forest.
