Bobcats bounce back from home loss

Posted

The Berryville Bobcats let a key conference game get away from them early on their home floor on Tuesday, Jan. 3, but they bounced back three days later to pick up a road victory in conference play.

Berryville fell behind by 18 points in the first half against Huntsville on Jan. 3 at Bobcat Arena, and although the Bobcats cut the deficit to four early in the fourth quarter, that was as close as they would get at Huntsville closed out a 63-58 victory.

“We just started slow,” said Berryville coach Brent Compton, who recorded his 300th victory with the Bobcats earlier this season. “I can’t explain it. Our kids knew the importance of the game. We knew how big of a game it was as far as how the league is going to play out. We just we started flat and Huntsville started really well. Getting down that much in the first half was just too much to overcome.”

Berryville senior Jake Wilson scored 31 points and classmate Nate Allen added 18, including a three-pointer at the buzzer that cut the final margin to five points.

The good news for Berryville fans is that the Bobcats shook off the loss and recorded a 66-38 victory on Friday, Jan. 6, at Gentry.

Wilson scored 30 points and senior D.J. Colbert added 13 for Berryville, which led 42-23 at halftime.

“We went on the road and played well against a conference opponent,” Compton said. “It’s always tough to win on the road. It’s always tough to win in the conference, period. But on the road, it’s even tougher. Our kids really showed up and played well.’

Berryville (14-4, 2-2 4A-1) will travel to Gravette on Tuesday before hosting Pea Ridge on Friday at Bobcat Arena.
