Posted

Hundreds of supporters gathered at the football stadium as the Berryville High School band hosted the 4th annual Bobcat Invitational marching contest sponsored by Equity Band on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Berryville High School band director Doug Blevins said this competition is used to help prepare bands in the area for the upcoming regional contests that are used to qualify for the state competition. Bands that participated this year included West Fork, Mountain View, Huntsville, Charleston, Farmington and Green Forest in addition to Berryville.

“Since we are the host, we are only eligible for one trophy that awards the Berryville kids for their efforts,” Blevins said.

The Berryville Band earned straight superior ratings from all three judges earning them the first division trophy. Mountain View earned an overall excellent rating while West Fork, Huntsville, Charleston, Green Forest and Farmington all earned superior ratings. Mountain View took home the award for outstanding woodwinds, while Farmington won awards for outstanding brass, color guard, percussion and drum major. Green Forest High School was voted the fan favorite.

Tonya Blevins, who directs the Bobcat marching band said: “It was a great evening in Berryville for marching bands from all over. All the bands did an outstanding job. These communities should be very proud of their high school band.”

After a competition at Rogers Heritage High School the band will travel to Rogers High School for the ASBOA regional competition on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The Bobcat band will perform at 5:15 p.m. with their sights set on qualifying for the state marching contest in Little Rock.
