The Berryville Middle school band program was awarded $1,650 from the Peter R. Marsh Foundation. This is the third year in a row the band has received this honor according to middle school band director Tonya Blevins.
The grant comes with a few conditions as stated in a letter that accompanied the check. Among the conditions, the middle school band students must perform at least three times this school year at local senior facilities (retirement communities, senior centers and care facilities).
Grant funds have been used to purchase appropriate music over the past three years. In return, Blevins will send in pictures and videos of band members playing for and interacting with seniors in thecommunity.
“One of the conditions of the grant is that students have to interact with the seniors. This is a wonderful experience for our students and brings great joy to our senior citizens in our community,” Blevins said.
Students will perform this year at The Blossoms nursing and rehab center in Berryville.
“We are still working out all the dates,” Blevins said. “We know for sure we will be out and about around Christmas time including a performance with Santa at Equity Bank.”
