Two of Berryville Shooting Sports’ junior high teams traveled to the Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex to compete against the state’s top 64 junior high trap teams in the Arkansas Game and Fish Comission’s Youth Shooting Sports Junior state championship on Friday, May 31. The two teams had earned spots in the state bracket by finishing among the top 16 teams at the west regional junior tournament on May 17th. At the state tournament teams competed in a bracket-style format similar to the NCAA basketball tournament in which they went head to head against the competition to advance to ensuing rounds. Both junior teams advanced into the third round, known as the sweet 16, before being knocked out. In total there were 415 junior teams, which consisted of 1,846 shooters competing in all four regions of Arkansas for this competition.

Berryville junior shooter Andy Andreski shot a perfect 25 of 25 at the west regionals, which qualified him to compete individually at the junior Champion of Champions Event at the end of the junior state tournament. Only eight junior shooters out of 1,846 junior Arkansas shooters qualified for this event. Andreski ended up in a three-way tie for second in the state.

On Saturday, June 1, Berryville had two senior teams among 64 teams in the state competition. Those teams earned spots on the state bracket as the No. 2 and No. 6 seeds from the west region. Both senior teams were able to advance all the way into the third round, or sweet 16, before being forced to shoot against each other head to head.

Berryville’s senior team, Road Kill Grillers, advanced all the way to the final four before falling short. They shot against the Shiloh Christian Blue Angels in the consolation bracket, coming out victorious after a tiebreaker when one of their shooters, Jaret Standlee, shot a perfect score in the round. The senior team ended the day in third place in the Arkansas Game and Fish Youth Shooting Sports state championship coming home with $2,500 in prize money. In total there were 484 senior teams, which consisted of 2,143 shooters competing in all four regions for this state title.
