Berryville students to pursue music in college

Posted

Students who participate in band or choir classes in high school often enjoy the fruits of their labor through scholarships and extended opportunities. In the past, band and choir students in Berryville have had the opportunity to travel to Carnegie Hall, Chicago, St. Louis, Orlando and Hawaii.

“These music programs offered in Berryville open a lot of opportunities for students and families they might not otherwise get to enjoy,” band director Doug Blevins said.

Many students who participate in high school music programs will go on to enjoy music at the college level. Some will go on scholarship, while others simply audition and are accepted into groups just for the enjoyment of making music. This year there are several seniors from Berryville band and choir who will continue their musical journey after they graduate from high school.

“This is an exciting time for these young people and we are happy to know they are continuing to build on the skills learned in the high school band and choir program,” Blevins said.

The following seniors will graduate from Berryville High School on Sunday, May 21, and continue in music: Elizabeth Perez will attend Tulsa University; Jerry Carter will attend Northwest Arkansas Community College; Shelby Carpenter, Kyler Ginn, Briana Hernandez and Olivia Pearson will attend North Arkansas College and then the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville; Roman Johnson, Frankie Klimek, Grayson Morrell and Elijah Spring will attend Arkansas Tech University; and Nicholas Mabry will attend the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
