Berryville man arrested on charge of attempted murder

A Berryville man was arrested on an attempted murder charge after police said a gun went off during a struggle between the man and his girlfriend.

Kristopher Carr, 31, is being held in the Carroll County Detention Center on a $350,000 bond. Berryville police chief Robert Bartos said Monday, Aug. 14, that officers were dispatched to an address on Douglas Street on Wednesday, Aug. 9. The initial call to Berryville police came from state probation and parole officers, Bartos said.

According to Bartos, a woman at the residence said her boyfriend had been threatening her. The man pulled a gun and told the woman he was going to kill her, Bartos said. The man pointed the gun at the woman with his finger on the trigger, Bartos said, and she knocked it out of his hand. The gun went off during the struggle, Bartos said.

Berryville officers found the gun in Carr’s possession and placed him under arrest, Bartos said.

Carr was booked into the Carroll County Detention Center on charges of attempted murder and possession of a firearm by a certain person. He appeared Friday, Aug. 11, before Carroll County District Judge Dale Ramsey, who found probable cause to charge Carr and ordered him to appear in Carroll County Circuit Court at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 28, in Berryville.

Carr remained in custody in the county jail as of Monday morning, Aug. 14.
