If you are looking for a splash of color and a bit of wonder this summer, the Berryville Library can help!
The “Color Our World” Summer Reading Program will include special programming, hands-on activities, and reading challenges for all ages. All events are free. Sign-ups start Tuesday, May 27.
The program is kicking off with a coloring contest. There are categories for all ages. Coloring sheets are available to pick up at the library anytime. Entries are due by June 2 and will be on display at the library from June 4 through June 18.
Special programs start June 2 and continue through July 25. Mondays at 1 p.m. there will be a free show at Berryville High School’s Performing Arts Center. Magical balloons, juggling, rap, opera, wildlife and raptors are just some of the wonderful acts that will be coming to town.
Opportunities for hands-on learning and making will be available on Wednesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will be all about tools and give those 8 years and up a chance to try out various tools like sewing machines and a 3D printer.
The Blue Ribbon Daze program on Friday mornings will feature crafts that can be entered into the county fair in September. For those 16 and up, the Stay & Make Meetup series offers a chance to spend a Monday afternoon making something new and meeting new friends. For the little ones, there will be special Playground Storytimes at the City Pool Park on Tuesdays and the Berryville Community Center’s Janet Clark Memorial Playground on Thursdays.
All programs are free, and supplies are included. Some programs require sign-ups as space is limited. Visit the library to pick up a full calendar of events.
Special reading challenges are also offered for all ages. These are self-paced challenges that emphasize not only the importance of reading to brain health for everyone, but also the joy reading and books can bring. This summer six different age-based reading challenges are available. Small rewards are provided for those who meet reading goals. The real reward is role-modeling reading for our kids by showing them how much we all read. Last year Berryville collectively read more than 10,000 hours!
To sign up or get more information about any of these events and opportunities, visit the Berryville Library at 104 Spring St., call 870-4232323, or check out berryvillelibrary. org.
