Berryville Library celebrates its Friends

Posted

The Berryville Library will be spending the week of Oct. 20-26 celebrating its Friends of the Library group as part of the 19th annual celebration of National Friends of Libraries Week.

The Friends of the Berryville Library were re-established in 2017 and have helped spearhead the Berryville Library Building Project, which has raised more than $3.25 million for a new library.

Made up of more than 180 community members, the Friends advocate for and assist the Berryville Library. Their financial support and volunteers help beautify the library and provide supplies and materials the library could not otherwise afford. These include craft supplies available for teens to use whenever they pop in and hot spots with unlimited data available for anyone in the community to borrow for free for a week at a time. They also host author talks, a Christmas bake sale, and other events throughout the year.

“We really could not get by without a little help from our Friends,” said library director Julie Hall. “Their leadership in raising awareness of the important role the library plays in the community and their willingness to persevere and work so hard for so many years to raise the money that is needed to build the new library our community so deserves has been crucial to the success of our efforts. We have raised more money than many thought possible and have almost reached our $3.5 million goal. I am so grateful to all our Friends and community supporters who have contributed so much of their time, talent, and treasure. They all deserve to be celebrated!

“We are proud to be supported by both individuals and businesses dedicated to building up our library and making a better Berryville. We are especially thankful for our 38 Business Friends. These are local businesses that are putting their name and money behind our fundraising events and our efforts to reach our big fundraising goal. We are so close and hope to be able to announce a groundbreaking date soon.”
