Berryville girls split last two in tournament

Posted

The Berryville Lady Bobcats split their final two games of the 67th Annual Green Forest Holiday Tournament, beating Omaha 60-36 on Thursday, Dec. 7, to advance to the consolation championship, where they lost to Huntsville 45-41 on Saturday, Dec. 9.

Berryville rolled to a 33-19 halftime lead over Omaha and finished with three players in double figures. Junior Taelor Tomlinson made five three-pointers, including three in the third quarter, and led the Lady Bobcats with 17 points. Sophomore Ella Miller had 10 of her 13 points in the first half, and classmate Tessa Johnson made three three-pointers before halftime and finished with 12 points.

The Lady Bobcats had 10 three-pointers altogether.

Cornelison said ups and downs aren’t surprising for a team with no seniors and three juniors.

“We shot it pretty well against Omaha,” Cornelison said. “That’s kind of been the story of the season so far. We’ll play a good one and then we’ll not play a good one. That’s youth. But I feel like they’re working hard every day in practice and that’s all you can ask as a coach.”

Against 4A-1 rival Huntsville in the consolation final, Berryville led 27-24 at halftime but couldn’t hang on. Sophomore Kaylyn Smith led the Lady Bobcats with 16 points, while Tomlinson finished with 10, including three three-pointers.

“It was a back-and-forth game,” Cornelison said. “They hit a couple of shots down the stretch and we didn’t.”

Berryville hosts Blue Eye on Tuesday at Bobcat Arena before opening conference play Friday at Farmington.
