Students at Berryville Middle School are making a meaningful impact through Community Champions for Kids, a service initiative led by the school’s 101-member Future Business Leaders of America chapter. The program focuses on supporting children in foster care through community service, donation drives, and seasonal giving projects.
FBLA’s mission is “to inspire and prepare students to become community- minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences.” Berryville FBLA members are bringing that mission to life by giving back to some of the most vulnerable youth in their community.
The need is significant. More than 400,000 children are currently in foster care across the United States, including 3,698 in Arkansas and 48 in Carroll County. Through C.C.F.K., students are working to show these youth that their community cares.
Throughout the school year, FBLA members have organized several themed service projects. “A December to Remember” provided Santa Bags filled with wants and needs to help foster youth experience a joyful holiday season. In “Feel the Love February,” students created Candy Grams to spread encouragement and kindness.
This spring, the project continues with “March Into Self-Care,” where students are assembling selfcare swag bags. Upcoming initiatives include “April Bunny Baskets,” filled with essential and fun items, and “May Your Summer Shine,” providing goodies to help make summer extra special.
Berryville FBLA is also partnering with The CALL to host a school-wide sock drive to support foster youth across Carroll County and Arkansas.
Three Berryville FBLA students, Chelci Clark, Jadence Lowery and Jozi Tidyman, will present the chapter’s Community Service Project at the FBLA State Leadership Conference on April 9 in Little Rock. Their goal is to qualify for the FBLA National Leadership Conference this June.
While the identities of foster youth remain confidential, the commitment of Berryville FBLA members demonstrates that leadership and compassion can make a powerful difference in their community.
