Hearing no opposition to a proposal to vacate and abandon a portion of Miller Street that sits adjacent to Tyson Foods’ Berryville plant, the Berryville City Council gave final approval to an ordinance to that effect at its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 6.
The council convened a public hearing on the Miller Street proposal, but no witnesses turned up to speak for or against the proposal.
The council, which had approved the proposed ordinance on its first reading on May 16, approved the second and third readings by title only at the June 6 session.
Mayor Tim McKinney said the portion of Miller Street affected by the ordinance is rarely used. he said the move the portion of Miller Street will help Tyson complete an expansion of its wastewater treatment facilities.
“They’re trying to get their wastewater a little cleaner before we get it,” McKinney said.
The Miller Street item was the only voting matter on the council’s June 6 agenda.
The Berryville City Council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, at City Hall.
