Berryville council approves land purchase

For parking lot near city square

Posted

Parking on Berryville’s Public Square has been a frequent topic of discussion for Mayor Tim McKinney and the Berryville City Council.

The council took action last week on a move that McKinney said should help alleviate the parking issue.

The council approved a measure authorizing the purchase of approximately 0.43 acres located behind the Carr’s building on the square for $135,000.

The property currently houses a storage unit building that will be removed and replaced with a parking lot.

“The land was available and I think with the way our downtown is going, it would be a good idea to get some property,” McKinney said. “It’ll be a convenient place for people working on the square to park.”

McKinney said he expects the parking lot to accommodate 30 to 40 vehicles.
