Staff in the Berryville School District will have a little extra money just in time for the holiday season.
The school board recently approved $1,000 “retention” bonuses to all full-time district employees.
“The retention side of that is that they have to fulfill the 2025-2026 contract,” superintendent Owen Powell said.
The bonus, which was included in the district’s budget, is a way to show appreciation to the staff and will be received the Friday before Thanksgiving break, the superintendent added.
“We’ve got a really hardworking staff. A very deserving staff.” Powell said. “It’s nice to be able to reward them and give them a little extra something right around the holidays.” OTHER BOARD ACTION The board also had a handful of other approvals at its most recent meeting held Oct. 20, including the purchase of a new HVAC unit at the intermediate school.
“It’s one of those things that HVAC’s really just don’t last as long as they used to,” Powell said. “Anybody that’s in the business will tell you that back in the day they would last 20, 25 years and now you’re lucky to get 10 or 12 years out of an HVAC unit.”
Other board approvals included an updated Memorandum of Understanding with the county’s Connect 4 program and the purchase of virtual school curriculum.
The board also voted to OK a request by a group of high school students to start a Turning Point USA Chapter.
In personnel, the board approved the resignations of intermediate teacher Amanda Briggs, special education paraprofessional Kaitlyn Shumaker, custodians Stacey Ording and Zane Carroll and Kelley Deatherage from her Special Olympics position.
