Berryville band finishes season on high note

Posted

The Berryville High School Band recently participated in the State concert band competition sponsored by the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association and hosted by Cabot High School.

The band qualified for the competition by earning a superior rating at the regional band competition held in March. Each qualifying ensemble had the opportunity to perform for three nationally recognized adjudicators. They were Sheily Bell from Dutchtown, La.; Bart Ghent, retired from Dallas; and Stan Mauldin from Houston, Texas.

The Berryville Band earned straight superior ratings at the competition. The top 11 bands from the 4A classification participated in the competition. Berryville earned seventh place overall with a score of 87.190. There were 35 Class 4A schools that played in regional competition this year. This is a huge honor for the school and the band students. The competition season has now come to an end and the 20222023 edition of the Berryville Bobcat band has earned straight superior ratings at the three ASBOA- sponsored competitions throughout the school year including the Region 6 marching contest, the Region 6 concert band contest and the State concert band contest. They also earned an Excellent rating at the State Marching Contest.

“We have had a tremendous year with the students in the Berryville Band,” Band Director Doug Blevins said. “They have worked hard and it really payed off in the end. The students have represented our town and the community of Berryville with class and excellence. The State Competition would not have been possible without the support of our community.”
