Providence Academy pushed across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, then held Berryville scoreless in the top of the seventh to beat the Bobcats 11-10 in Berryville’s baseball season opener on Thursday, Feb. 29, in Rogers.
Berryville had scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score at 10-10.
Senior Ashton Blok had three hits and drove in four runs for Berryville, while Titus Gregory and Cooper Summers each had two RBI for the Bobcats. Summers and Drew Dean each scored three times.
Summers’ two-run single in the sixth had scored Dean and Josh Butler to tie the game.
First-year Berryville coach Tate Ferguson said four freshmen started for the Bobcats.
“Really and truly, we’ll be pretty young for most of the year,” Ferguson said.
Berryville’s upperclassmen performed well against Providence Academy, Ferguson said, led by Blok.
“He’s making pretty solid contact,” Ferguson said.
Ferguson also praised Dean’s performance at the top of Berryville’s lineup.
“He’s another senior,” Ferguson said. “He does a good job of getting deep into counts and putting balls in play and hustling around.”
Berryville is scheduled to travel to Harrison on Tuesday, March 5, before playing at Greenland on Friday, March 8.
