Freeman Heights Baptist Church held its 21st annual AWANA Pinewood derby race on March 13. There were many in attendance as the kids raced their homemade cars. The fellowship hall of the church was transformed into a raceway with car tires, banners and race related props. Pre-kindergartners through sixth-graders competed in the event as many more watched. Building a car is very rewarding whether going for the fastest car or for the best in design class, all kids were winners. Those taking home trophies for TNT (3rd-6th grade) in speed were: Charleigh Wynn, first place; Gunner McWilliam, second place; and Logan McWilliam, third place. For design the trophy recipients were: brothers Gunner McWilliam and Logan McWilliam, first place tie; Hollis Shudy, second place; and Wyatt Burgess, third place. Those taking home trophies for Sparks (kindergarten through second grade) in speed were: K.J. Stone, first place; Jakyn Jones, second place; and Grady Wynn, third place. The trophy recipients for design were: Blair Ryan, first place; K.J. Stone, second place; and Jakyn Jones, third place.
