Allen wins prosecutor's race, Writer turns back challenger in Republican primary

Posted

Robert “Beau” Allen was elected as Carroll County’s prosecuting attorney in Tuesday’s preferential primary, non-partisan judicial and school election, defeating longtime incumbent Tony Rogers by a wide margin.

Meanwhile, Carroll County Judge David Writer defeated challenger Dianna Baird by more than 20 percentage points to win the Republican nomination for re-election in the November general election.

Republican State Sen. Bryan King of Green Forest appears to have defeated challenger Bobby Ballinger to win re-election to the District 28 seat. King carried Carroll County with nearly 65 percent of the vote.

In the Republican primary for the District 6 seat in the state House of Representatives, Carroll County District 4 Justice of the Peace Hunter Rivett appears to be headed to a runoff against Cody Rogers of Omaha. Rivett received the most votes in Tuesday’s election but did not achieve the majority necessary to avoid a runoff. The third candidate, Steven Baird, finished well behind Rivett and Rogers.

Republican Chris Clifton won the closest local race, defeating Margaret Hickman by seven votes — 240 to 233 — to win the District 2 Justice of the Peace position on the Carroll County Quorum Court.

Republican Luke Dignan avoided a runoff to win the District 4 JP seat over Duane Coatney and Eric Griesenauer.

Incumbent Republican Craig Hicks was re-elected to the District 6 JP position by a margin of almost six to one over challenger Lisa Price-Backs.

In contested school board races, Kenny Bonham defeated Paul Wells by nearly 40 percentage points to win re-election to the Zone 5 seat on the Green Forest School Board, while Ginger Johnson defeated Travis Holloway for the Position 5 seat on the Eureka Springs School Board.

Results announced Tuesday night are unofficial until they are certified by the Carroll County Election Commission.
