Berryville High School was honored to have four band students selected to the Arkansas All-State ensembles this year.
Sophomores Andrew Griesenauer (tuba), Karson Casey, (bassoon), and Israel Merida-Noriega (flute) were selected to the all-state band while Maynor Valiente Cruz (French horn) was selected to the All-State orchestra.
“What an honor for these students to be selected by competitive audition to our All-State instrumental music ensembles,” said band director Doug Blevins.
The students qualified for the allstate auditions by scoring very high in the regional audition held in early January. These students attended the all-state auditions at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro back in February.
Originally, they were scheduled to attend the All-State Music Conference in Hot Springs in February. That event was canceled because of inclement weather. The Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association along with the Arkansas Activities Association rescheduled a modified music conference that was held March 31-April 1 at Maumelle High School. The All-State Musicians were able to come together to present a concert to the public after working with a clinician for a day and a half.
“This is just the beginning of great things yet to come for the BHS band program as individual musicians are rising to a very high level of performance. We are very proud of these young men,” Blevins said.
