A big weekend for Beryville

Posted

It’s going to be a big weekend for the Berryville Bobcats and their fans. The Bobcats officially open their football season on Friday night, hosting Mountain View at Bobcat Stadium. Mountain View won a state championship in eight-man football last season and is moving back up to the 11-man game this fall. It’s an interesting matchup for the Bobcats.

Before Friday night’s game, however, the really exciting part of the weekend begins. The inaugural class of the Berryville Athletic Hall of Fame will be recognized at the stadium. On Saturday morning, the five inductees — Jo Ann Clark, Ronnie Clark, Jack Edens, Tom Ginn and Joe Mills — will be officially inducted into the Hall during a ceremony at the Berryville Performing Arts Center.

I’m excited about football, but I’m even more excited about this first class of very deserving inductees into the Hall of Fame.

It’s an idea that was overdue, and I’m glad to see it become a reality.

Ever since the announcement of the Hall’s creation earlier this year, I’ve been thinking about potential inductees. I’ve only lived in Berryville for a little more than 10 years and I’ve served as sports editor for only about six years now, but I can think of several deserving candidates right off the top of my head. It’s great to see these hometown stars get the recognition they deserve.

This year, the focus is on the inaugural class, and I’m glad I’ll be able to see them inducted. Congratulations to the Berryville Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2024!
