Lady Bobcats take control early
If there was any question about which team would win the Dec. 14 girls matchup between Berryville and Eureka Springs, the Lady Bobcats answered it quickly.
Berryville raced to a 26-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and went on to a 59-29 victory over the Lady Highlanders at Bobcat Arena.
Six players got in the scoring column for Berryville in the first quarter, led by nine points from senior forward Faith Kelley. The Lady Bobcats made three three-pointers during the quarter and opened the game with a 24-3 run that was capped by Kelley’s turnaround jumper inside the lane.
After Eureka Springs senior Olivia Cross dropped in a three-pointer from the left wing with 13.8 seconds left in the first quarter, the Lady Bobcats scored the first eight points of the second quarter to extend their lead to 36-8.
Berryville led by at least 21 points the rest of the way. Senior guard Anni Armer led the Lady Bobcats with 14 points while Kelley and junior guard Mia Thurman added 11 points apiece.
