Tigers take 3rd place at state meet

Green Forest freshman Arauny Reyes finished sixth among individual runners and junior Alonzo Rangel was two spots behind in eighth place, leading the Tigers to a third-place finish in the team standings at the Class 3A state track and field championships on Friday, Nov. 5, at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.

Reyes covered the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17 minutes, 27.92 seconds, while Rangel finished in 17:34.09. Senior Paco Rangel was 11th across the finish line in a time of 17:46.50.

Other Green Forest runners in the boys race were Joseph Duenas (35th, 19:15.30); Chris Alvarado (43rd, 19:36.54); Sergio Martinez (44th, 19:37.42); Alex Alvarez (54th, 19:51.58); and Kevin Cifuentes (69th, 20:14.80).

Green Forest scored 100 team points, finishing behind Jessieville (52) and Episcopal Collegiate (58).

On the girls side, the Lady Tigers took 10th place in Class 3A, led by senior Samantha Delavin.

Delavin finished 64th in a time of 25:28.45. She was followed by teammates Marianna Beltran (67th, 25:46.31); Hanya Fuentes (77th, 26:40.38); Haddasah Reyes (82nd, 27:00.08); and Debora Reyes (83rd, 27:02.26).

In the Class 4A race, also run on Friday, Berryville freshman Malachi Houghton finished 19th in the boys division with a time of 18:20.65. He was followed by teammates Jake Lopez (71st, 19:49.73); Cole Price (87th, 20:12.30); Will Dean (122nd, 21:07.61); Robby Bartos (134th, 21:29.67); Chris Nequiz (21:43.89); Asher Ross (156th, 22:22.33); Aden Burnett (158th, 22:31.71); and Nathan Ross (194th, 24:08.51).

Berryville finished 16th among 26 teams in the boys team standings.

In the girls 4A race, freshman Astralia Amos led Berryville, finishing 64th in 23:46.28. Other Berryville runners were Bella Knapp (69th, 24:00.40); Lucy Reyes (116th, 25:43.30); Tessa Parton (124th, 26:08.57); Alison Nequiz (140th, 28:10.03); and Lupita Calderon (153rd, 31:16.46). The Lady Bobcats were 16th among 17 teams in the Class 4A girls team standings.

In the Class 2A race, on Thursday, Nov. 4, Eureka Springs junior Jayden Urioste was 17th among individual boys finishers in a time of 19:12.35. Other Highlanders runners were Roy Chapin (42nd, 21:04.81); Leo Tapia-Gachuzo (46th, 21:07.98); Finn Vansickle (73rd, 23:02.64); and J.D. Eckman (101st, 27:42.71).

The Highlanders finished ninth among 12 teams in the team standings.

Eureka Springs had three runners in the Class 2A girls race all eighth-graders. Shiloh Goodman finished 36th in 25:03.96, followed by Ilima Beattie (41st, 25:28.17) and Amber Kirk (28:54.56). The Lady Highlanders did not qualify for the team standings.
