Another death reported in county
The number of Arkansans who died from complications attributed to the COVID-19 virus increased by 145 since last week, bringing the statewide death toll to 7,590 on Monday.
That number includes one additional death in Carroll County since last week, bringing the local death toll from the novel coronavirus to 67, an increase of 20 deaths since late July.
According to data distributed by the Arkansas Health Department on Monday, the state saw an increase of 7,594 new cases of the novel coronavirus — down from the 10,055 new cases reported the previous week — since Sept. 20, bringing the total to 492,650 cases. That number includes 472,473 cases described as “recoveries.”
The number of statewide deaths reported decreased over the past week, when 178 deaths were reported.
The number of active cases in the state was reported Monday as 12,494, a reduction of 3,280 active cases in the past week.
As of Monday’s report, 861 people were being treated in hospitals, with 394 having been admitted to intensive care units. Almost two-thirds of those in ICU beds — 232 — have been placed on ventilators.
Those numbers represent a decrease of 154 hospital admissions in the past week, along with 51 fewer ICU admissions. The number of patients on ventilators has remained relatively steady.
Since Feb. 1, more than 90 percent of those hospitalized in the state — along with a similar percent of those whose deaths were attributed to the virus since that time — were not vaccinated.
Since the pandemic began, hospitalizations related to the virus have included 848 children under the age of 18, an increase of 96 in seven days, including 111 ICU admissions.
As of Monday, 3,391 of the state’s active cases were among children under the age of 18.
More than 96 percent of those pediatric cases were among children 12-18 who were not vaccinated against the virus.
Case numbers in Arkansas have risen steadily since July 31, when there were 380,625 reported cases. Since then, the number of cases has increased by nearly 30 percent.
In Carroll County, the number of active cases reported Monday was 80, down from 124 last week. The total number of reported cases increased by 39 since last week, rising to 4,179 with 4,032 reported recoveries.
According to Monday’s state health department numbers, 1,326,773 Arkansans 12 and older have been fully vaccinated against the virus — an increase of 20,729 in the past week — while an additional 295,772 have been partially vaccinated. Combined, those numbers account for approximately 63.5 percent of eligible Arkansans.
In addition, 22,928 vaccinated individuals have already received their third-dose booster.
In Carroll County, the ADH reported Monday that an additional 626 doses of the various vaccines were administered in the past week, bringing the total to 21,107 and raising the percentage of county residents aged 12 and up that are fully vaccinated against the virus to 40.4 percent. An additional 9.4 percent have been partially immunized.
