Lady Bobcats pick up 1st victory of season
The Berryville Lady Bobcats picked up their first victory of the 2021 volleyball season on Tuesday, Aug. 31, sweeping Gentry in three sets.
The Lady Bobcats won 25-12, 25-7, 25-13.
“We played better,” Berryville coach Kristin Whetham said. “We’re still down a couple of girls due to quarantine, and that’s going to hurt us a little bit. But overall, girls stepped up. They were playing different positions. Overall, I think they stepped up and did a pretty good job.”
Senior Madison Beck had 10 kills against Gentry while sophomore Sidney Kisner had six. Kylee Campbell added five and senior Faith Kelley had four. Ava O’Gorek had 21 assists, Kelley had 13 digs, O’Gorek added 11 and Emmory Morris had 10. Beck also had seven aces, while sophomore Sidney Kisner had six and classmate Tatiana Emerson added five.
Also last week, Berryville lost to Blue Eye and Harrison in straight sets. With a young roster, Whetham said the goal continues to be steady improvement.
“We’re scoring points,” she said. “We’re just not scoring enough. We’re putting points on the board and that’s all I can ask right now. Hopefully, we’ll have everybody back soon and we can get the ball rolling in the right direction.”
Berryville will host Prairie Grove on Tuesday and travel to Gravette on Thursday.
