Inaugural Storywalk newest addition to Ice Cream Social

Tuesday, July 6, 2021

How would you like to go on an adventure and help raise money for the Berryville Library Building Fund all at the same time? As part of the 35th Annual Berryville Ice Cream Social presented by Tyson, the traditional 5K will be replaced this year with a fun and adventurous one-mile fundraising walk put on by the Friends of the Berryville Library in which the entire family can participate together or as individuals.

The Inaugural Berryville Library Storywalk will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, beginning at the Berryville Community Centerís front entrance.

The one-mile route will take participants of all ages from Berryville to the heart of the African savanna to the majesty of the Amazon rainforest down to the depths of the deep, blue sea before returning safely back to Berryville.

Based on the popular Aesopís Fable about the race between the tortoise and the hare, participants choose whether they want to do the mile walk as the tortoise, taking the journey slow and steady, or whether they would like to take the journey fast like the hare. Berryville Rotary and Lions Club, along with CS Bank, have sponsored the themed stations along the course and each station will feature challenges and fun activities, along with cold water and snacks.

The event will start and finish near the main entrance of the Berryville Community Center.

Because participants will be making stops along their journey the event will not be timed, and each finisher will earn a coupon good for a free scoop of ice cream to be redeemed at the Ice Cream Social Ice Cream Booth located on the Berryville Square.

Registration can be done individually or as a family unit. Walkers under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Like a walk-a-thon, there is no entry fee to participate; however, walkers are encouraged to seek sponsors from family or friends who will pledge money for the successful completion of the one-mile adventure. Walkers can also simply sponsor themselves.

All walkers raising $30 or more in donations will receive a special thank you gift from the Friends of the Berryville Library. All donations benefit the Berryville Library Building Fund.

The Storywalk adventure will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with individuals/groups sent out to start their adventure approximately every 15 minutes. Walkers can arrive and register any

time from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The last group of walkers will be sent out at 9:30 a.m.
