The Green Forest Lady Tigers are headed to the state championship game, and they got there in dramatic fashion.

Green Forest defeated Central Arkansas 3-2 in double overtime Saturday at Burns Park in North Little Rock, erasing a 2-1 deficit in regulation.

The Lady Tigers will face Harding Academy in the state championship game at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at the Benton Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Emily Lozano’s penalty kick in the second overtime gave the Lady Tigers the lead, and senior goalkeeper Evelyn Lopez blocked CAC’s final shot to seal the Green Forest victory.

“It was definitely a good, clean soccer game,” GreenForest coach Ashley Wilson said.

Green Forest won despite having just 10 players on the field after a red card. Wilson said CAC eventually wore down despite having more depth than the Lady Tigers.

“They got tired,” Wilson said. “You could tell they were scared. We shocked them. They weren’t expecting that.”
