Bobcats pick up conference win
The Berryville Bobcats picked up a big conference win on Monday, April 5, defeating Gravette 3-2 behind solid pitching and error-free defense.
With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Aspen Linz drew a leadoff walk, then moved to second on a groundout and scored on an RBI single by Dylan Higgins to give Berryville the lead for good.
Higgins and Chris Hipps each had two of the Bobcats’ seven hits. Higgins drove in two runs and Hipps drove in one.
Berryville starter Tanner Rosales pitched 4 2/3 innings, holding the Lions to two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out one batter. William Dean pitched the final 2 1/3 innings, holding Gravette scoreless. He allowed one hit, struck out one batter and didn’t give up a walk.
“Really proud to get the conference win and of our team’s overall effort,” Berryville coach David Broseus said.
On Friday, Shiloh Christian defeated Berryville 17-7 but the Bobcats continued to play error-free defense and collected 10 hits in the loss.
Jarrett Stringer and Dominic Henry each had two hits for Berryville and Hipps delivered the big blow with a three-run home run to left field that gave the Bobcats a 4-2 lead in the top of the third inning.
“I was proud of our effort,” Broseus said. “We played well defensively again. No errors. They just hit the ball really well.”
Berryville hosted Farmington on Monday night. The Bobcats will play at home again Thursday against Gentry before hosting Elkins on Friday.
