Baseball: Hipps’ HR powers Bobcats in win over Valley Springs
After taking a week off for Spring Break, the Berryville Bobcats got to play plenty of baseball last week.
The Bobcats played five games in as many days, hosting Harrison on Tuesday before traveling to Huntsville on Thursday and then facing Clinton, Valley Springs and Lamar on Friday and Saturday in tournament action at Harrison.
Berryville’s only victory during that stretch was a 12-3 win over Valley Springs in five innings on Saturday.
The Bobcats put that game away with a 10-run outburst in the bottom of the third inning highlighted by a three-run home run from freshman Chris Hipps.
Hipps also had a double and scored twice for the Bobcats. William Dean also had two hits, drove in two runs and scored once for Berryville, while Tanner Rosales, Jace Walker and D.J. Colbert scored two runs apiece.
Three pitchers saw action for Berryville in the victory. Jarrett Stringer, Rosales and Ashton Blok allowed combined totals of three runs on three hits with 11 strikeouts and six walks.
Berryville hosted Gravette on Monday. The Bobcats will face Shiloh Christian on Thursday in Springdale before returning home to host Bergman on Friday.
