Back to School Bash: Event draws more than 100 students for free school supplies and services

Classes in the Berryville School District will begin next Tuesday, Aug. 13. Some students got a jumpstart on the new school year at last Thursday’s Back to School Bash.
Held in Bobcat Gym, the event provided a chance for students and their families to meet with school staff, enjoy a snack and stock up on free school supplies.
“It went well,” said Mindy Hicks, school and community relations coordinator for the Berryville School District. “We had more kids show up than last year. Over 100 students came through. Everyone seemed to enjoy it.”
Several students got a free haircut at the event, and Dr. Geoff West of Ozark Lakes Family Dentistry provided free dental screenings.
Southern Heights Baptist Church served hot dogs and sno-cones, and Church on the Hill provided water.
The Berryville Police Department was on hand as well, taking fingerprints and handprints of students.
The school supplies that were distributed at the Back to School Bash were collected during Berryville Bright Futures’ Stuff the Bus campaign. Hicks said there were plenty of supplies to go around.
“We had folders, binders, crayons, school boxes, just everything the students would need,” she said. “Everyone seemed to enjoy it.”
