GF gets series split with YS
The Green Forest Tigers hosted Yellville-Summit on Thursday for a doubleheader and came away with a series split. The Tigers came away with a 3-2 victory and lost the second one, 14-6.
Green Forest 3, Yellville-Summit 2
Leading 3-2 with two outs in the top of the six, Green Forest's David Nelson struck out a Yellville-Summit batter. In the top of the seventh, the Panthers popped up to Dakota Grigg, grounded out to Andrew Guzman and Nelson finished with a strikeout.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Guzman hit a ground ball to short, which scored Tyler Swofford. A fly ball to left by Luis Lopez in the bottom of the fourth scored Trey Curbow and Nelson scored on Guzman's ground ball, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Yellville-Summit scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Tigers were able to hang on for the victory.
Jackson Tibbetts, Lopez and Curbow each had a hit. Nelson pitched a complete game. He struck out four and allowed three hits.
Yellville-Summit 14, Green Forest 6
The Green Forest Tigers had an early lead against the Panthers, as Tyler Swofford scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the first and Trey Curbow and Luis Lopez each scored on Hayden Bailey's grounder to short. Green Forest's 3-1 lead evaporated in the top of the third, however as Yellville-Summit scored three runs to take a 4-3 lead.
David Nelson scored on a balk in the bottom of the third, tying the game at 4-4, but the Panthers went on to score four runs in the top of the fourth and took a 10-4 lead into the sixth inning. A double in the top of the sixth helped the Panthers take a 14-4 lead into the bottom half of the inning. Bailey and Swofford each scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to trim the Panther lead to 14-6.
Jacob McMahan and Nelson each had a hit. On Tuesday, Green Forest travels to Berryville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
