Tommy "T.D." Russell

TOMMY "T.D." RUSSELL, 81, of Green Forest departed this life Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in Berryville.

The son of Claud and Annie (Jones) Russell, Tommy was born February 13, 1933 in West Chapple, Texas.

Tommy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He joined the Navy after graduating high school and then went on to work in the oil fields. Along with business partner, Tim Roberts, T.D. owned and operated R & R Gravel and other business adventures. Tommy was a member of the Coin Baptist Church. Over the years, he was a member of the Bass Club, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Green Forest Booster Club. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tommy was an avid sports fan and a fixture at Green Forest sporting events. With his brothers and sister, he helped to start the football program at Green Forest High School. He loved to read and visited the library often. He enjoyed bird hunting and fishing. He fished in many tournaments, winning several of them. T.D. loved to play dominos and was a self-proclaimed world-class marble player. He enjoyed playing cards and taught his grandchildren how to play. T.D. was quite the trickster, and many times fooled his children, grandchildren, and others just to get a laugh. He was a man of character and had a heart of gold.

On July 22, 1961, Tommy was united in marriage with Peggy (McCoy) Russell who preceded him in death after 51 years of marriage. He was also preceded by his parents, Claud and Annie Russell; one son, Joel Bud Russell; four brothers, E.S. Russell, Merle Russell, Marvin Russell and Ferrell Russell; and one sister, Sylva Palmer.
