EUREKA SPRINGS - Eureka Springs artist Zeek Taylor learned yesterday he will receive the Arkansas Governor's Lifetime Achievement Award for the arts.

"I got a phone call from the Arkansas Arts Council yesterday," he said. "I'm honored, amazed and shocked -- and on Cloud 9!"

The annual Governor's Arts Awards program, sponsored by the Arkansas Arts Council, recognizes individuals and corporations for their support of the arts in Arkansas. Award categories are Arts Community Development, Arts in Education, Corporate Sponsorship of the Arts, Individual Artist, Folklife, Individual Patron and Lifetime Achievement.

The Lifetime Achievement award is given to one worthy recipient each year. Taylor will be feted and presented at an awards luncheon at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock this fall.

Taylor is the executive director of the Eureka Springs Artists Registry and has won many awards and honors for his one-man shows.

For more information on Taylor and his award, see our Weekend print edition, on stands this Friday, June 8.
