Gene Combs, a resident of Green Forest, AR, was born September 29, 1935 in Huntsville, AR, a son of Jasper Henry "Bud" and Mattie Clare (Walker) Combs. He departed this life Sunday, May 15, 2011 in Harrison, at the age of 75 years.
Gene enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Alpena Baptist Church. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On May 23, 1957, Gene was united in marriage with Glenna Ruth Trigg who survives him of the home. He is also survived by two sons, David Combs and Dexter Combs and wife Kim all of Green Forest, AR; one sister, Marilyn and husband Bob Graves of Green Forest, AR; one sister-in-law, Sharon Combs of Green Forest, AR; three grandchildren, Danna Compton of Vidor, TX, David Lee Combs of Vidor, TX and Dalton Combs of Green Forest, AR; one great-grandson, Peyton Compton of Vidor, TX; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walker Combs; and one sister, Carolyn Combs.
Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Nelson's Green Forest Chapel. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Alpena Baptist Church with Reverend Dean Smith and Reverend Mike Widner officiating. Interment followed the service in the Farewell Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to the Alpena Baptist Church, P.O.
